Purpose:
An organization comprised of young black professionals in the Akron, Ohio area with a focus on the personal and professional development of oneself and other young professionals, including high school and college students. The Young Black Professionals Coalition will develop and maintain a yearly scholarship given to graduating high school seniors who meet certain criteria set forth by the scholarship committee. YBPC plays a major role in the development of young African-American males and females through an extensive mentoring program, workshops, seminars and professional development clinics. Such workshops/seminars will be geared towards improving communication skills (oral & written), leadership skills, professionalism and networking, amongst other skills. Related programs will focus on the wellness (spiritual, mental, social, and physical, etc.) of young black professionals in the community. The focus of YBPC is to encourage the ongoing education of African-Americans, be a positive, active and effective citizen within the community, enhance the personal and professional development of its members and provide a place for young professionals to network with other ambitious black professionals.
Events:
The Young Black Professionals Coalition hosts multiple events focused on networking and fundraising in the City of Akron. These events include, but are not limited to; “I Know I Can” Back to School Drive, “Strikes 4 Hunger” Charity Bowling Outing, 4th of July Charity Kickball Tournament and Christmas toy drives. In addition, YBPC hosts several networking events and professional developments throughout the year in collaboration with other organizations and venues throughout Akron.
Programs:
Programs focus on but are not limited to: effective communication, customer service, leadership, networking, organization, time management and a host of other topics. Members of YBPC participate in a mentoring program based in the Akron area community for African American boys and girls. The mentoring program focuses on the development of the young adults encouraging and promoting education, professionalism, wellness, self-esteem and independence.
Recognition:
The Young Black Professionals Coalition puts a strong emphasis on the enrichment of young professionals who strive to make a positive and effective impact on their community. YBPC focuses on the development and enhancement of African-American adolescent and young adults within the Akron community. YBPC plans to recognize these individuals through awards and scholarships given annually at the end of the academic school year. YBPC will recognize and present deserving high school and college students with a scholarship to further their education at an institution of their choice. Adult recipients will also be chosen based off their involvement within their profession, their community and the organization.
